Title: The cost implications of Red Diesel to the Marine Industry

Author: Simon White

Article:
There's bad news for pleasure boaters in the UK as the
Government makes known its verdict on Red Diesel's future.

But first...

What is Red Diesel?

Up until now, UK leisure boaters have been able to fuel their
boats with red diesel which is subject to lower VAT. Coloured
with red dye to distinguish it from the more expensive variety,
red diesel is typically available for around 40p per litre, less
than half the national average for diesel on the forecourt.

The issue.

In recent years, permission to use red diesel became subject not
only to national approval, but also the EU's. The reason is down
to EU policies that bring into line taxes on fuels and energy,
and the fact that consent to use red diesel depends on exemption
(derogation) from these EU rules.

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) fought to extend the
derogation that allowed UK leisure boaters to use lower duty red
diesel. In October 2006, the British Government decided to
support the case. However, EU officials failed to accept the
government's arguments and have decided that the derogation
should end with effect from the end of December 2006. There is
now a grace period in force for the phasing out of red diesel in
the UK. In pleasure craft, red diesel will remain usable legally
until November 2008.

Honesty is the best policy.

Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has decided that
pleasure craft users can carry on using red diesel as long as
they make a declaration to the supplier and pay the full rate of
tax for heavy oil.

It will then be the responsibility of the Registered Dealer in
Controlled Oils (RDCO) to declare the duty collected to HMRC.
What makes the situation less clear is that fuel which is
intended for domestic use (not for boating) will still be
available at the lower tax rate.

'Availability and Safety'.

The HMRC's Dave Fitzgerald confirmed the core policy had been
fixed but that HMRC would be working closely with the RYA, the
BMF and other stakeholders to develop the detail of the
declaration process and apportionment of fuel for domestic use.

Following that consultation process, HMRC will produce
comprehensive guidance.

'Our main concerns were availability and safety,' said Neil
Northmore, the RYA's government affairs adviser.

'We were aware that there was a danger that some retailers in
more remote areas would simply not bother selling to pleasure
boats on the premise that it would be more trouble than it was
worth to distinguish between private and commercial craft, and
then process the paperwork.'

Increase in duty.

Howard Pridding, executive director of the BMF said:

'We are pleased with how HMRC has managed the consultation
process and the position that they have finally adopted. When
buying fuel, people will be required to sign a declaration that
states whether their boat is for private or commercial use.'

It will then be up to HMRC whether they wish to investigate
whether the purchase was correct or not, he explained.

The Future of Red Diesel.

On 28 February 2008, HM Revenue & Customs revealed that from 1
November this year, boaters will be paying a duty rate of 56.94
pence per litre, instead of the current rate of 9.69 pence per
litre.

It will become illegal to have diesel on board pleasure craft if
it cannot be proven that it was purchased at the higher rate of
duty, meaning that boaters will have to keep records of all
their diesel purchases.

Diesel bought for use as heating fuel will still be available at
a rebated rate. So to add further complication, there will be a
system in place where you can declare that a proportion of the
diesel you are taking on is for 'domestic purposes'!

Only time will tell how this news will hit the market, but it's
not hard to imagine it having some impact.

Title: Tips to Ward off Dry Skin

Author: Christine Erickson

Article:
Everyone suffers from dry skin at some point however most
individuals don't take proactive action to avoid it. Dry skin
looks parched and has a tendency to easily flake; it is dry to
the touch, often itchy and in some instances is overly
sensitive. The reason that skin becomes dry is that the oil
glands become under-active or even inactive and thus fail to
produce adequate amounts of sebum that helps keep your skin
lubricated. The skin is unable to naturally moisturize itself in
the wake of all the environmental stresses that we come in
contact with on a daily basis.

Tip to help cure and prevent dry skin:

1. Take luke warm baths or showers, hot water strips the natural
oils from the skin. Showers and baths should be limited to 10
minutes. Moisturizing immediately after and shower or bath is
extremely effective in locking in moisture.

2. Avoid diuretics, they suck you dry. This includes alcohol,
cigarettes, and caffeine.

3. Drink water, keeping hydrated is a must. At least 8 glasses
of water is recommended to keep your body running at optimum
levels. Remember to increase your levels during hot days or
during physical activity.

4. Bath in oil. Hydrate your skin by soaking for approximately 5
minutes and then add a small amount of your favorite oil to the
water to seal in the moisture.

5. Use a humidifier in your home or office. Central heating
systems and air conditioners suck up moisture; you can counter
this by adding your own moisture back into the air. Humidifiers
come in all shapes and sizes so finding one to fit your
requirements will be quite easy.

6. Put on moisturizers, whether you think you need it or not.
Moisturizing should be part of your daily skin care routine, it
is necessary for healthy skin and as an added bonus it will help
keep wrinkles at bay. Moisturizing is a proactive act, not just
a cure for dry skin.

7. Heavily moisturize your feet before bed and wear socks, it
may feel strange at first but your feet will thank you for it.
Adding the socks will ensure that the moisturizer completely
absorbs into your skin. This trick also works for hands, just
put on some gloves for a hour or two while watching TV or
relaxing.

8. Avoid soaps that do not contain moisturizers in them, regular
soap is drying, it strips everything the good and the bad. There
are many options on the market today, it should not be a problem
finding a gentle cleanser or body wash that is filled with
moisturizers. Once you try one you will never go back, your skin
will feel fantastic.

9. Gently exfoliate; dry skin needs help getting rid of the old.
Exfoliating can be done by using a loofa or a gentle exfoliate
cleanser. Which ever way you decide to go remember to be gentle,
skin cells are microscopic you don't actually need to see them
come off. Removing the layer of dead cells will allow for better
penetration of the moisturizers and get rid of the flakey
appearance.

Dry skin is definitely uncomfortable and irritating, but it can
also be potentially dangerous. When skin becomes excessively
dry; cracks and abrasions can appear which may become infected
and lead to a host of additional problems. Dry skin also
exacerbates skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. It is
important to invest the effort in including moisturizing into
your daily skin care regime, not only do you feel better and
look better but it leads to healthy resilient younger looking
skin.

Title: Dry Skin: #1 Problem with Aging Skin

Author: Katie Carwell

Article:
Although it may not be intentional, everyday we abuse our skin
by partaking in daily rituals including showering, bathing,
playing in the sunshine, smoking, drinking coffee, or simply
enjoying the air conditioned living room. The environment that
we live in takes tremendous toll on our skin and slowly it loses
its natural ability to moisturize. Skin is our body's first line
of defense and protects us from infections, impacts and the
environment as a whole but over time this begins to fail.

As we age our skin care needs begin to change and evolve. Dry
skin is a wide spread problem however as we age this becomes
much more prevalent. Contrary to popular belief the number one
issue that immerges is not wrinkles or age spots, it is actually
skin dryness. Ironically having healthy moisturized skin
actually minimizes the appearance of wrinkles. As we age the
layers of skin that we don't see on the surface begin to thin,
the oil glands become under productive, and the diminished lipid
(fat) layer is no longer able to hold moisture. This all leads
to dry, flaky, itchy, and sensitive skin.

Another unavoidable reason for the increase in dry skin is
medications. As we age the probability that we will be on a
prescribed medication increases, dry skin is the side affect of
many. As well many health conditions are associated with skin
dryness such Diabetes, high blood pressure, and many thyroid
disorders.

To help alleviate dry skin try the following:

1. Try showering or bathing every second day when possible. Hot
water strips the body of its natural oils so luke warm water is
always recommended. Showers and baths should be limited to 10
minutes. Use cleansers sparingly, use them for your groin and an
arm pit area, water is generally sufficient for the rest of your
body. Leave your body damp and apply moisturizer to seal in the
moisture.

2. Drink at least 8 glasses of water per day; your body must be
hydrated to work efficiently. Always increase your liquid
consumption when doing physical activity or in environments that
sap water from your body. Reduce or avoid alcohol, caffeine, and
smoking, these all have a diuretic effect on the body.

3. Add a humidifier to your home or work environment. Air
conditioners and central heating systems pull a large amount of
moisture from the air, and a humidifier will help remedy this
issue. There are many on the market today so finding one that
fits your budget and your needs should be relatively straight
forward.

4. Above all else moisturize, even if you don't think you need
to. Being proactive is always the best solution to any problem.
It is recommended that a moisturizer of some kind be applied
twice a day, and at bedtime is a must.

Moisturizing on a daily basis should be part of everyone's skin
care regime; however as we age it becomes must more imperative.
As a population we focus on how our skin looks but it is
important to remember that our skin is the body's biggest organ
and it has many important health protecting duties. Winning the
battle against dry skin not only makes us look and feel fresh
but it helps maintain skin integrity which is essential to our
health.

Title: Trans Fats: Why worry?

Author: Coach G.

Article:
Trans fats are fats where the molecule has a bit of a twist so
that it kind of twists around putting hydrogen bonds on the
opposite side from each other. Trans means 'across' in Latin.

You have probably heard that trans-fatty acids are bad for you.
Let's take a look at if that is true, and if it is, why.

I would have to say that not all trans-fats are bad for you. But
I must say that most trans-fats are bad for you. Let me explain.

Trans fats do occur naturally in small amounts. This leads to
the conclusion that Nature or God must have some purpose for
them. Therefore they should not be entirely done away with
simply because we don't yet know what the purpose may be.

Many studies have shown the dangers of artificial trans fats in
human diets. It is a major contributing factor to heart disease
and stroke. It is a very significant contributor to fertility
problems. It has been connected to cancer, obesity, and liver
dysfunction. It has even been connected to diabetes. Many of our
long term debilitating diseases seem to be much more likely to
occur when we consume a diet high in trans fats. The body has
trouble breaking down trans fats.

However, there were studies done recently where they
specifically compared natural and artificial trans fats and they
discovered that natural trans fats did not cause the same
problems as artificial trans fats. But the natural trans fats
also caused trouble if taken in large enough amounts.

The problem we have in the Standard American Diet (SAD) is that
we eat tons of artificial trans fats. Folks eating the SAD are
eating up to about 50% of their dietary fat in trans fats. If
you eat only raw natural foods you eat only very small amounts
of trans fats. Two to four percent of the dietary fat at most.

This tells us that if we eat trans fats it should only be in
very small amounts.

Trans fats are found in anything that contains any hydrogenated,
or partially hydrogenated oils. Hydrogenation is a process that
was created to make oils more solid and less rancid. In so doing
it made them very unhealthy for human consumption. If you start
reading labels in the grocery store, you will find these oils in
a huge percentage of products on the shelves. It makes the food
easier to preserve and helps it be solid at room temperature.
However, it can be disastrous to your health.

Beware that products that are labeled "0 Trans Fats" may not be.
Our benevolent government has decided that anything with less
than 6% trans fats can be labeled as free of trans fats. So of
course products that have 10% or more trans fats will often
dilute the product down with extra vegetables oils to get under
the 6% and then call the product a "0 Trans Fats" product.

Now, you may be thinking, "Well if they dilute it down so there
is only a small amount then it could be safe to eat." You would
be wrong.

Remember that trans fats only occur in very few natural foods,
and in very small amounts. Also remember that man-made trans
fats (hydrogenated oils) are much more dangerous than naturally
occurring ones.

Hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils may be some of the
most dangerous products to human health that we have come up
with for human consumption- doubly dangerous because most people
don't know that yet. (Another 'most dangerous product' would be
"High Fructose Corn Syrup".)

The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has determined that there
is NO SAFE LEVEL of artificial trans fat consumption for humans.
They don't support a ban of trans fats, however, because they
recognize that there are small amounts of trans fats in natural
foods, and to remove those could cause other problems due to the
artificially-created imbalance that would result.

Natural balance from whole natural foods: that is the key.

Perhaps it should be mentioned here that cooking vegetable oils
in an open frying pan does not cause trans fats to appear. That
is a myth. Heating vegetable oils to high temperatures is
unhealthy, but that is because it forms free-radicals
(polymerized oil). However, trans fats can be made by cooking
oil in some type of pressure cooker.

The healthiest oils to cook with are those that remain stable at
high temperatures. Coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil, and even
real butter are some of your best oil to cook with.

But remember, most foods are healthier eaten raw, or steamed.

Just eat a high quality natural foods diet, exercise, drink
plenty of good clean water, make sure you get fiber (whole raw
foods), get plenty of sleep, breathe deeply and have a gratitude
attitude.

Your body will take care of you, if you take care of it.

Title: Essential Guitar Care Tips

Author: Ken Radwell

Article:
If you want to keep your guitar in top condition, so that it
always sounds great and keeps it's value, a few simple care and
maintenance tasks need to be carried out. The guitar is a
sensitive instrument and by following these simple steps, you
will make sure that your guitar continues to perform at its
best.

Watch the temperature.

Your guitar can tolerate a range of low and high temperatures,
but it is rapid change in temperature that can cause problems
such as a cracks in the body. Never leave your guitar next to a
radiator, or in the back of your car on a hot day. Keeping your
guitar in it's case when not in use can offer some protection
against extremes of temperature change.

Is your guitar drying out?

Lack of humidity is another threat to your guitar, especially if
it is an acoustic. Low humidity can cause cracking fret boards,
split tops etc.. Keeping you guitar in it's case will protect
against sudden changes in humidity as well as temperature. Use
of a humidifier is recommended to deal with any humidity issues.
These are usually placed in the sound hole so that the humidity
within the guitar can be maintained at a suitable level and
avoid the guitar drying out. This is particularly important in
winter, when your heating will be drying out the atmosphere in
your house.

Storing your guitar.

As already mentioned, storing your guitar in it's case when not
in use is a good way to protect against changes in temperature
and humidity. But is also good for general protection of your
guitar from dust, knocks etc.. A solid body case is best as this
affords better protection against knocks.

The alternative and cheaper option is to buy a rack or stand, so
that the guitar can be stored in a secure position.

If you are not going to play your guitar for about a month or
more, it is a good idea to loosen the strings. When tuned, the
strings exert a strong force against the neck and body of the
guitar. Over time this can cause warping, and bending out of
shape. Loosening the strings takes the pressure off and will
prevent any occurrence of this. You will simply need to retune
your guitar once you start playing again.

Cleaning

The first step toward keeping a clean guitar is to make sure
your hands are clean before you start playing. The life of
strings can be affected by sweat and chemicals that are
deposited by your fingers when playing. Keeping your finger
nails trimmed on your fret hand will also prevent unnecessary
wear of the fret board.

The strings should be cleaned after each session, by wiping with
a soft cloth to remove any deposits. Cleaning the strings will
not only extend the playing life of the strings, but will help
keep the guitar in tune.

When the time comes to change the strings, take the opportunity
to give the fret board a clean. This can get quite grubby with
muck accumulating behind the frets. A dirty fret board will also
reduce the useful life of your strings. To clean the fret board,
use a damp paper towel to wipe gently between the frets. Be
careful not to get the fret board wet. Then wipe the fret board
with a dry paper towel. Many guitarist use Fretboard 65 Lemon
Oil. This is a popular fretboard cleaning agent and treatment.

The finish on the body of modern guitars is usually quite
durable and so should only require a wipe down with a soft
cloth. Polishing, if required, should only be carried out using
a specialist guitar polish. Ordinary furniture polish is not
recommended as these often contain mild abrasives. If you polish
your guitar too frequently with ordinary household wax polish,
the layers of polish can eventually harden and alter the tone of
your guitar.

Change old strings

If your guitar is sounding dull, or the guitar keeps going out
of tune, this is usually a sign that the strings need replacing.
If you are a professional or an amateur who plays frequently,
you will probably have to change your strings every two weeks.
For more casual use, every two to three months is more likely.
All strings should be replaced at the same time. This is so that
the characteristics and youth of the strings are consistent for
all strings. Changing one string in isolation will give you
problems maintaining tune of your guitar. When you are changing
your strings, check the action of the tuning gears to make sure
that there is no looseness or slack in the gearing. If any slack
is found, the tuning gears should be checked and repaired by a
competent guitar technician.

By following these simple guitar care tips, you will enjoy a
long and tuneful relationship with your guitar.

Title: Asparagrass Steamer - Using This Unique Tool

Author: Robin Holland-Smith

Article:
The Stellar and Judge asparagrass steamer is ideal for gently
poaching asparagrass and corn on the cob. Its elongated shape
allows the article to stand up-right during the cooking process,
ensuring that there is even cooking at all times. The
asparagrass steamer has a polished finish both inside and out
and riveted stainless steel handles. Stainless steel asparagrass
steamer comes with a lift out basket and includes a huge base
pot. It has removable insert and vented toughened-glass lid and
it is also dishwasher safe.

Professional chefs choose Stellar and Judge Cookware because of
its adherence to the highest cookware standards. This cookware
is constructed of 18/10 Stainless Steel (with 10% nickel and 18%
chrome) that is premium grade. This alloy allows the cookware to
resist stains and gives it an optimal hardness.

Before using new cookware, one should be sure to remove any
labels and wash in hot soapy water, rinse, and dry it. Non-stick
surfaces should also be conditioned using a tiny bit of cooking
oil spread on the surface, wiping it then with paper towel.
There is a food-safe factory coating found on copper pans to
keep them from tarnishing during transport, and this can be
removed by heating water gently in the pan, which will make the
coating become cloudy in appearance before it disappears
completely. After the coating has been removed and one begins to
use the pan, it will develop the copper 'antiqued' patina one
normally sees. If desired, Stellar Copper Cleaner can be used to
restore the bright copper appearance to the surface.

Asparagrass is always eaten cooked, usually boiled or steamed,
but it can also be cooked in the microwave or added to stir-fry
dishes. Asparagrass is delicious with lemon and butter, tossed
with Parmesan cheese or creamy pasta, or marinated and served
cold or warm as a salad. It goes particularly well with ham and
chicken, but tastes amazing if served with any meat or poultry.

The stalks have tough and woody ends, which will snap off with
the use of a little pressure. However, many people prefer to
leave most of this intact and simply peel the tough skin off of
the lower part. If you find yourself with leftover trimmings,
they can be blanched and frozen to be used later - perhaps in a
stock or soup. For tasty asparagus, the key is to cook it to the
point of tenderness where it can be pierced with a fork. This
usually only takes about ten minutes.

Never overcook asparagus, since that will lead to it losing its
flavor and nutrient value. Make sure you use a non-iron skillet
when you boil it, and use salt water in the pot. Another helpful
tip is to tie the stalks together to make cooking asparagus
easier and simpler to remove when it's done.

If you love asparagus, you can't do without a special asparagus
steamer. Look for them in the Stellar and Judge Specialty
cookware collection, which features among other things, fish poachers and spaghetti cookers. An asparagus steamer
allows you to steam the tips of the asparagus while allowing the
tough bottoms to cook thoroughly in the boiling water. The
steamers are tall and narrow with a basket insert that allows
the asparagus to stand in the basket with the tips above water.
The asparagus steamer is a must for the asparagus lover.

Title: What To Look For When Purchasing An Oil Heater

Author: Craig Thornburrow

Article:
When you are looking to heat your home you may want to consider
using an oil heater. The price of heating our homes is once
aging on the rise so many people are wondering how they can heat
their homes efficiently. However it is important to look and
make sure that you are getting the correct heater for your home
before you purchase it and here are some tips to help you choose
correctly.

The Area that You Need to Heat

When you are purchasing an oil heater it is important to know
the exact dimensions of the room that you are looking to heat.
This is because each heater will tell you the square footage
that the heater can accurately maintain the temperature in the
room. It is unfortunate but many people purchase either to large
of a heater or one that is too small. Either scenario will cost
you more money in the long run.

A good example of this can be seen in a heater that is not large
enough to keep the room where it is going properly heated. Many
people feel that if they buy a smaller heater they will save
money and then just add an extra layer of clothing to help
offset the difference in temperature. It sound logical enough
but that is not what happens in reality. Here is what actually
happens. Because the heater cannot heat the room enough to get
the temperature regulated so the thermostat will turn the heater
off, the heater will continue to run for a longer period of
time.

The longer that your heater is running the more oil you are
using. So if you really want to save money make sure that you
purchase the correct size heater for the area you want to heat.
This will save you a lot more money in the longer run and help
you to keep your heating cost down.

Environmentally Friendly Heaters

Many manufactures are now making heaters that are referred to as
waste oil heaters. These heaters use oil that is otherwise going
to be thrown out. For example these heaters that use waste oil
allows you to recycle used motor oil. This gives you a way to
really save money because no one wants their used oil. It also
helps save the environment because you are reusing a product
that would normally just be discarded so this is something that
you may want to consider when you are looking for a heater that
is run with oil.

Are These Heaters Safe?

Generally speaking these heaters are safer than their electrical
equivalent. This is because a heater that burns oil does so at a
lower temperature than your standard electrical powered heater.
This can decrease the fire risk somewhat. With that being said
you still need to read and follow all the safety instructions
that come with your heater. The manufacturers will tell you the
safest, most effective way to use their oil heater while heating
your home.

Title: The Truth About Acne Scar Laser Treatment

Author: Tamsin Gray

Article:
Laser treatment for acne scars is a popular way of getting rid
of acne scars even though it is a costly procedure. Before
seeking acne scar laser treatment, you should be aware of the
different types of laser treatment available and the possible
risks involved.

Acne scar laser treatment uses a high-energy light beam to burn
away layers of damaged skin tissue. By inhibiting the growth of
bacteria and shrinking sebaceous oil glands, acne lesions can be
successfully treated. Laser treatment can be very effective for
certain types of acne scars and can significantly improve the
appearance of the skin but it isn't a magical cure that
eradicates acne scars overnight.

There are two main types of lasers used in acne scar laser
treatment, namely ablative (resurfacing) and non-ablative
lasers. Ablative lasers burn away scar tissue by heating and
removing the top skin tissue which stimulate the skin to tighten
up, thereby rendering scars less visible.

This type of laser treatment is used to treat keloids or raised
scars by flattening and reducing itchiness by preventing redness
of skin. However, ablative laser resurfacing injures skin during
treatment and skin may remain red for several months.

During the healing period, care has to be taken not to infect
the wound. The procedure usually requires multiple treatments
and results will only become apparent over a year after the last
laser treatment. The patient has to endure several months of
discomfort with sensitive skin and cover the red appearance with
skin foundation.

Non-ablative laser treatment stimulates changes in the skin
without injuring the epidermis. This kind of laser treatment
works for less severe acne scarring. It works by heating the
sebaceous gland to reduce sebum production and stimulates
collagen to fill depressed areas. Non-ablative laser treatment
is popular as it has few side effects and recovery is fast.

Laser treatment for acne scars can have varying success in
results. Always consult your dermatologist who will conduct a
full medical analysis based on your medical history, the
condition and location of scars among other factors before
deciding a suitable type of acne scar treatment.

Since acne scar laser treatment often requires multiple sessions
of treatment, the cost can be quite high, running into several
thousand dollars for the entire treatment period. Results also
vary with each individual not only because the nature or
severity of the acne scars differs for each person, but also
that different people react differently to the treatment. Some
who are lucky have skin that heals well while others may see
little improvement or worse skin condition after treatment.

Expectations of perfect skin after laser treatment are
unrealistic. Skin is very unlikely to heal to the point of
original flawless skin. At best, acne scars are minimised and
lightened to give an improved appearance. Perhaps the best
remedy is to seek medical attention early before acne problems
take root. This will reduce chances of permanent acne scarring
which even acne scar laser treatment may not be able to get rid
of satisfactorily.

Title: Plastic Pipes

Article:
In current years all through the world, the significance of
plastics pipes in the plan of piping system for community and
business water provide and sewage transport has slowly but
surely greater than before. This tendency reflect a on the
increase self-confidence in plastics as a piping fabric, maybe
due for the most part to better universal acquaintance and
knowledge in this field.

The plastics are more often than not manufactured on a
petrochemical foundation with petroleum as the uncooked cloth.
In this background it possibly will be of attention to be on
familiar terms with how the earth expenditure of petroleum
looks. merely four percent of the earth manufacture of oil used
for manufacturing plastics while ninety six percent is burned as

The make use of of plastics is increasing fast, and in
particular in the container of plastics pipes. This is for the
most part accurate for pipes intended for water pipes and sewer
out-of-doors and indoors. All manufacturing country give you an
idea about the similar propensity. For case in point, it can be
mention that manufactures of the plastics pipe in Europe was on

Title: Taking Care Of Antique Furniture

Author: Ricardo D Argence

Article:
Antique furniture requires a certain amount of care and
maintenance to keep it from harm and deterioration.

Knowing how to care for your antique furniture properly will
protect your investment and keep your antiques looking their
best for years to come. There are three aspects to properly
caring for your antiques proper cleaning, proper protection, and
maintaining a proper environment.

Never use chemicals to clean your antiques. They can damage the
finish. Dusting should be a part of every cleaning regimen.

Furniture should be dusted frequently to avoid dust build up.
Dust can be harmful to your antique furniture. Always use a soft
cloth that will not harm or scratch the surface of your
furniture.

Avoid the use of polishes that keep dust away some of the
chemicals can cause a weakening of your antique's finish.

Proper protection includes where you put your antique. Is it in
a place where people will knock into it frequently? Is it in
direct sunlight? These situations put your antique at risk of
damage.

Be sure to treat your antique with the appropriate wood oil to
maintain its luster and keep the wood from drying out. When the
wood dries, it can cause cracking or separation, as well as
weaken the piece.

Putting your antique somewhere you can enjoy it as well as keep
it away from high traffic areas is preferable. One of the most
important aspects of caring for your antique furniture is
maintaining the right environment. The proper environment should
be neither too dry nor too damp.

The first step is to make sure your furniture is not located
right next to a radiator or heat source. Houses with central
heating can easily become too arid. If your air is only 25-30%
moisture, you're close to the moisture level of the Sahara
Desert.

Didn't know that, did you? You may want to consider a
humidifier. It will help you as well as your furniture.
Humidifiers can be discreetly placed in the room in a variety of
ways.

A special cabinet with a screened front may work, or if you like
plants, it can be placed behind several pots. The plants will
appreciate the added humidity anyway. If your home is kept at
approximately 70 degrees F, you will want to aim for around 50%
humidity to safeguard your antique furniture.

There are several types of humidifiers on the market; you'll
want to select one appropriate for the size of your room. They
also come with automatic shut off controls in case you forget to
refill the water basin. Some humidifiers create a light steam.

This is a sterile form of humidity, and should be easy to use.
The steam is visible and this model should be easy to clean.

If you prefer a cool form of humidity, you will want to choose
one that distributes the humidity by a fan. A model like this
will produce a little noise from the operation of the fan motor,
unlike the silent steam model. You'll need to change filters as
needed.

Ultrasonic humidifiers create a fine visible mist. There will be
a low noise and you may find white chalky deposits on nearby
surfaces after a period of use. You must use soft or distilled
water with this variety.

Title: Tips To Help Ward Off Dry Skin

It is
important to invest the effort in including moisturizing into
your daily skin care regime, not only do you feel better and
look better but it leads to healthy resilient younger looking
skin.

Title: Laser Treatment for Acne - Scar Removal

Author: Franchis Adam

Article:
Who wants to have a gruesome scar on their skin? I don't! and I
bet you also don't want your pretty skin be marked for life
because of that acne. Having an acne is such a great humiliation
to many people, what more if eventually it turned out to be a
scar? That's much more mortifying I guess!

Treatment of acne scars depends on numerous factors. Difference
in location, intensity, and number of scars are all playing
significant role in determining the right laser treatment for
the patient. These treatments mainly work by using various
wavelengths of radiations with different intensities. All these
factors are modulated depending upon latest situation to contour
the damaged tissue. This scar treatment also helps to improve
the adjoining redskin marks nearby healed acne lesions.

Smoothbeam is an advanced multifaceted nonablative laser therapy
for acne scarring which usually targets and heats up oil
producing sebaceous glands. This in turn reduces the sebum
secretion preventing new acne formation. The heating effect
induces the production of new collagen in patient's skin, which
thus softens and fills out the deep scar marks from within by
lifting them to normal condition. This laser uses a
groundbreaking patented technique along with DCD (dynamic
cooling device). This appliance first super cools the affected
area with a blast of cryogen spray which is right away followed
by laser beam. This combined cooling and heating effect triggers
the natural collagen production in the acne scar affected area
without causing any harm to our skin.

A number of laser treatments might be necessary to influence
collagen formation and healing up acne marks up to the
satisfactory limit. Doctors usually opt for three to six
sessions at an interval of three to four weeks. However,
patients might experience some sort of discomfort associated
with this laser technique and therefore use of topical
anesthetics is highly preferable before the application of this
treatment. Instead of showing so much of improvement in scar
removal treatment, this laser might impose some mild side
effects which could easily be cured with the supervision of your
dermatologist. A few other nonablative laser therapies are also
available. Among them yellow pulse dye laser and N-Lite are
quite familiar. All of them principally trigger collagen
formation and tightening of dermis, treating keloidal scars,
reducing the redness, and finally bringing up a normal,
aesthetic, and presentable look of your skin.

Are there risks or side-effects?

Medical lasers such as the Smoothbeam have been safely used for
more than 20 years to treat medical and cosmetic skin
conditions. In general, most procedures have a low risk of side
effects. More aggressive treatments might induce some temporary
discoloration or reddening of the skin. Some patients might
experience slight changes in skin color. If this occurs, the
skin will typically return to normal pigmentation over time.

Does it hurt?

The Smoothbeam's patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™)
technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling
burst of cryogen. In some circumstances, topical anesthesia may
be used - you can discuss this option with your practitioner.

Just make sure that the acne scar removal products that you
will try is safe and will do no harm in your body. And for your
safety, Think twice and be wise before going through any
sensitive treatments or using any kind of skin products!

Title: Flu? It May Be Carbon Monoxide In Your Home, Cabin Or Chalet
Heating System

Author: Margaret S. Mathews

Article:
Carbon monoxide in your home can be a danger to yourself and
your family. Carbon monoxide (CO) is not Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
the stuff the dry ice is made of and puts the fizz in your soda.

You cannot smell or detect Carbon Monoxide in your house or
cottage by the power of smell. Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a
colorless and odorless gas that is produced when wood fossil
fuels that you also use to heat your home - fuels such as
heating oil , gasoline , diesel oil , propane , kerosene and
natural gas burn without sufficient and adequate oxygen. In
addition dangerous levels can also result from faulty
appliances, a clogged chimney, backdrafting of flue gasses, or
the buildup of engine exhaust from a garage. These causes are
relatively rare however.

What signs should you be on the lookout for, for the safety of
your home, house, cottage to protect your family against the
dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning? Warning and danger signs
in a home may include: stuffy, stale or smelly air. More
condensation than usual on your windows. Also watch out for soot
that has gathered around a fireplace, chimney or other wood
burning equipment. Lastly be on the lookout for a yellow flame
in a natural gas appliance, instead of the normal blue, clean
flame. In addition a caution flag should go up in your mind if
the pilot lamp goes out frequently in your natural gas furnace
or water heater, and you have to call a neighbor or the gas
company to light the pilot light frequently.

Symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisonings will depend on how long
you and your family have been exposed to this dangerous gas,
Symptoms can vary - indeed you may be the victims of strange
unexplained symptoms for a good period of time. With low
exposure slight headaches and shortness of breath during
physical activities may occur.

With medium exposure you may experience more severe headaches,
dizziness, nausea, vomiting, confusion, weakness, trouble
seeing, loss of muscular control and ongoing continual
drowsiness. Lastly and most dangerously in high exposure to this
poison unconsciousness, brain and even death can occur.

What is amazing, and a major reason why incidences of Carbon
Monoxide poisonings go undetected and unreported is that this
situation bears great resemblance and similarity to the symptoms
of the "common flu". If you, or any member of your family, or
close friends experience any of these or similar symptoms it is
most important that the cause of Carbon Monoxide poisoning be
ruled out. If you really are unsure and testing can not be done
promptly - then at the least vacate your home for elsewhere
until you are satisfied that all is in order.

However if you do suspect Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisoning then -
first evacuate everyone from the house , condo or chalet to get
fresh air immediately , open all doors and windows. Lastly seek
medical attention promptly and alert the doctor or health car
providers of your concerns and suspicions of Carbon Monoxide gas
poisoning.

To reduce the risks of Carbon Monoxide (CO) gas in your home,
have a qualified heating technician check and clean your heating
and water heater systems on a regular basis. Have the technician
ensure that external air vents are used for all fuel burning
appliances. Install a fresh intake duct into any wood burning
fireplace or stove. At the very least leave a window open, for
additional fresh air, when the fireplace of wood burning stove
is burning.

Just as a smoke detector can warn you of a fire in your home, a
CO Carbon Monoxide detector can alert you when dangerous carbon
monoxide levels are present and rising to dangerous levels in
your home. Install an approved a certified carbon monoxide
detector on each level of your abode. It is most important to
stress that these Carbon Monoxide detectors are warning
detectors and not detract from the basic maintenance of your
home heating and fuel burning devices. Nothing takes the place
of regular maintenance and service of your fuel burning
equipment and appliances.

In the end it may not be a case of the simple flu in your
household but rather most dangerous and deadly Carbon Monoxide
poisoning.

Title: Going Green Gets Us Out Of The Middle East And Puts Billions
Back Into American Workers' Pockets

Author: Dr. Richard Craven

Article:
Nettleton, MS - Oil prices are through the roof and it's costing
us dearly. We empty our pockets in order to line those of the
oil barons in the Middle East and elsewhere, and as we do so our
dependence on their crude oil continues to deepen at an alarming
rate due to our consumption habits.

This need not be the case because America has the technology and
the natural resources to break this reliance on the Middle East.
In fact doing so has several other significant benefits.
Firstly, by purchasing American fuel we can stimulate the
economy by keeping our US dollars in US pockets, but perhaps the
most attractive aspect is the green issue; for the fuel in
question is renewable plant and/or animal fat-based biodiesel.

As a nation we might predominantly use gasoline-engine vehicles
for personal use, but our freight and shipping industry is
wholly diesel based. Factor in the diesel needed to power most
generators, construction equipment and industrial heating, and
it becomes clear that we use a vast amount of diesel per annum,
and it is this market that alternative fuels and energy
specialist, Dr. Richard Craven, believes is crucial in our
breaking free of Middle Eastern oil dependence.

"Diesel fuel accounts for over 40 billion gallons of petroleum
consumed in the US each year - and that figure is for highway
transportation use alone," says Dr. Craven. "That is over 100
billion dollars a year. So you can multiply that figure by at
least five when you take into account the other diesel users."

"There is absolutely no reason why we should be paying that sum
to a Middle Eastern company for fuel, when it is readily
available from companies here in America."

Dr. Craven has spent over 15 years at the forefront of chemical
research and development, with emphasis on environmentally
friendly fuels and alternative energy solutions during the past
decade. He is a recognized authority in the field and is also
the spokesperson for Universal Bioenergy, a Mississippi-based
biodiesel manufacturer. While he acknowledges that an increase
in the usage of biodiesel would profit Universal Bioenergy, he
is quick to point out that the benefits for other companies and
industries, not to mention the positive environmental aspects,
far outstrip those of the biofuel manufacturers.

"The benefits to the environment are substantial," Dr. Craven
explains. "We've all seen a truck pull away from the lights in a
huge cloud of black smoke, well with biodiesel that is greatly
reduced. It essentially contains no sulfur, so it reduces acid
rain caused by regular diesel exhaust emissions which contain
sulfur. Biodiesel also produces far smaller carbon monoxide,
carbon dioxide, and other hydrocarbon emissions. And of course
because you're growing more plants from which to manufacture the
fuel, there is more vegetation to consume these remaining carbon
emissions anyway. It's a closed-loop which is great news for the
environment."

This 'green' side to biodiesel doesn't just impact the
environment, but is a tremendous stimulant to the economy.
Biodiesel is manufactured from vegetable oils - American
farmers' crops - and animal fats/greases. Some of the plants
used for producing biodiesel 'feedstocks' can grow in areas not
suitable for 'edible foodstock' plants, therefore farmers and
co-operatives can utilize formerly unused land with which to
generate increased revenues. Additionally, many of these
alternative feedstock crops available for biodiesel production
can produce more than twice the oil yield of edible foodstock
crops - which in turn leads to increased productivity and
increased revenues for the American agricultural industry and
its associated service industries.

Perhaps biodiesel's ace in the hole is that it is a 100%
renewable fuel. "Crude oil is running out, and when anything
goes into short supply, its price increases," observes Dr.
Craven. "As this happens, biodiesel will become even more
cost-effective for users. There are already tax breaks for green
fuel companies and they usually pass on their savings to the
consumers via price cuts. As productivity increases, this trend
will increase also."

It is such an elegant and simple solution - certainly not rocket
science. Although, with the advances in technology that Dr.
Craven and his peers are spearheading, perhaps biodiesel will be
used as the rocket fuel of the future. But wherever it leads,
the opportunity to decrease our spending in the Middle East,
increase our own economy, and make another step forward with
environmentalism should be embraced.

Mississippi based Universal Bioenergy is a biofuel manufacturer
at the forefront of the green technologies revolution. Biodiesel
is made from vegetable oil, or animal fat; it is biodegradable,
non-toxic, and typically produces up to 78% less net carbon
dioxide emissions than petroleum-based diesel fuel. Biodiesel is
used to power cars, buses, trucks, construction equipment,
locomotives, boats, generators, and is also used as heating oil.
Universal Bioenergy's refinery is one of the most economical,
efficient, and compactly designed plants in the United States
with a smaller footprint than typical plants for the same
production capacity. Universal's unique manufacturing process
requires less time and less energy to yield a fuel of high
quality and effectiveness.
